twenty-five

Let the countdown begin.  There are only 25 more teaching days left until Summer Vacation.  Three of which are half days for the students.  One day is just a day the teachers go in to do paperwork, so it’s a kid free day.

Now there’s just the end of the year paperwork stress.  I did meet with my principal who informed me that as of right now, I’m going to stay in fourth grade.  So that’s good news.

This is the year where my tenure is determined.  I don’t see any reason why I won’t be getting it.  I also after about nine months finally got my permanent certification in the mail.  I finally got it last month.  So it’s been a pretty successful year.  Hope it continues to be good.

I just can't wait to be Queen.....

A conversation with one of my students today:

Her:  I need to ask you something.

Me: Sure

Her:  Umm...maybe I should wait, it’s not about the math.  You may get mad.

Me:  Well, now I’m curious.  I hate not knowing things.  So now you have to tell me.

Her:  I was wondering if we could have an end of the year party.

Me:  I really haven’t thought about it.  Let me think about it and I’ll let you know.

Her:  You can be Queen!

Me:  Queen of the party?

Her:  Yes!

Me:  Did you vote?  Maybe someone in the class won’t want me to be Queen.

Her: We didn’t vote, I just thought you could be the Queen.

Me:  Ooh...well if I get to be Queen, then I’ll have to give the party some serious thought.

Her:  You can even pick our party theme.

*Wow, being Queen and picking the party theme.  Really how can I possibly tell her no?  Not to mention I didn’t realize that school parties had themes.

March was/is to busy

March is practically over.  I’ve survived so far....I did report cards, spoke with parents at the parent teacher conferences, met with my principal to talk about my formal observation (which I put off until Mid April when we get back from spring break.) the state math test is over and now I’m focusing on science since the science state test is coming up after vacation.  I have moved all of my things to the new apartment, but it’s a mess here at the moment. I can’t wait for vacation.

So this week will be a busy one for me.  I have about three weeks worth of laundry that needs to get done.  I need to go food shopping.  I need to unpack boxes and clean up the apartment.  I need to borrow suitcases from my parents and pack for my trip to California.  Friday night I guess I’ll be driving to Jersey because our plane leaves from Newark on Saturday afternoon.  We also need to find living room furniture and a dining room set and rugs.

When it rains it pours....

I am exhausted.  Moving totally sucked and I still have lots of stuff at the old apartment and things at the new apartment are totally unorganized.  This weekend is my last weekend before I go away so I have a lot of stuff I need to get done this weekend.  Unfortunately the cable company screwed up and now I have to waste like 4 hours of my Saturday waiting for someone to come.

Last night was parent teacher conferences so I didn’t get out of work until afer 8pm.  I met with my principal today about my formal observation which I put off until we get back from vacation in the middle of April.  I have to think of a project to submit to her as well.  It’s ridiculous she doesn’t to waste her time observing people so people are stuck doing projects and I think it’s going to be more stressful than the observation.  Not to mention I found out today that on Friday people from Buffalo or something are coming to the school to observe us and see what we do, so that basically means that I have to plan a really good lesson to do in either reading or writing that will last a half an hour.  I really want to call in sick on Friday.  It’s just not going to look good if I do, then I’ll probably be on my principals list of people she hates which is not good.

10 days and I will be in California!

Update of my life

I had written this whole long post about hating work and hating my principal, but I decided not to post it.  Let’s just say that my principal is a psycho bitch who no one respects or likes.  That pretty much covers it.  I really just try to go in and close my door and teach my class and pretend that all of the crap going on outside of our room doesn’t exist.  I mean really when you think about it all that really matters is whether or not the children are learning and the fact that I am getting paid.  Really it’s just a job and I really need to learn not to take things so personally.  So I just do what I need to do and go home.

So unrelated to work, I am moving.  I am moving on Saturday and I don’t feel ready for it all.  I have boxes everywhere which I haven’t labeled yet.  I have things that still need to be put into boxes. Ugh, I can’t wait for it to be all done.  I will be taking some things over on Thursday and Friday.  I called the cable company today and they are going to be coming on Sunday, which is perfect.  I still have to call Con Ed.  I have to remember to bring the number with me to work, but I hate calling from work because my classroom phone will ring or someone will come to my door or there will be annoying announcements which go on for 15 minutes while I’m on the phone (I hate that).  Not to mention my service in school is crap and I lose a signal often.  I guess it doesn’t matter I still need to make the call.

So I had to tell my landlady’s boyfriend that I was moving because my landlady was in Peru for a month and a half.  So she got back this weekend and calls me to say she wants to speak with me and that she heard I was moving and she will miss me blah blah blah.  So she calls me twice last night and pretty much says she’d like to talk in person or whatever.  So I come home today and she’s home but I didn’t see her.  Then she knocks on my door.  She tells me that her daughter is sick and she’s going upstate to visit her blah blah blah and then she tells me that since I decided to move, she decided to sell her house.  So there are people here looking at the house and she wanted to show them the apartment.  She works fast, she gets home on Saturday decides to sell her house and has someone to look at the house by Monday.  Crazy.  So I told her I was having my movers come on Saturday, but she will still be away then.  So hopefully there won’t be any problems and she won’t leave her car in the driveway.

I can’t wait until March 31st and it’s not coming quick enough.  I’ll be on my way to California.  I can’t wait!

Vacation Week

Ugh...a week off of work and I’m sick!  I guess it’s just a cold.  I can’t seem to stop coughing.  Although, because I was out in the old walking around Manhattan all day yesterday, but the time I got home I had a slight fever.

So yesterday I went into the city with my boyfriend.  We took a tour of the Radio city music hall.  It was very entertaining and informative.  I think I will never go there again without noticing all of the things that I had learned.  Then we went to the top of the rock and saw the beautiful view of New York.

Lastly, We went to get my boyfriend a guitar that he has been wanting for months.

By the time I got home, I passed out.

Today, I have an appointment to see a Broker about some apartments in Bayside. Hopefully, it will work out.  Tuesday I think we will be heading out to Jersey.  No real plans as of yet.  Thursday, I think we will got to Philadelphia for the day and see my cousin.

My weekend update

This weekend I went two two scholastic warehouse clearance sales, one in New York and one in New Jersey.  I found that they had different things and the deals started to get better the later in the day you go.  So I got tons of stuff and even got lots of free books and gifty items.  I have to remember to look for dates earlier.  They apparently had one in December too, which I didn’t go to because I didn’t know.  So anyways a lot of money was spent, but I got lots of stuff.  I am missing a bag, so I hope it’s in Spikes car and I just forgot it.

Today I went to a coin show.  I don’t know much about coins.  Spike told me that he’d buy me a coin.  I picked a coin from Belgium from 1905.  I probably should have went for a more pricey item, but I liked the coin.

My friend, Elizabeth called today to tell me she had the baby on Friday night.  I wasn’t in NY, so I didn’t get to go to the hospital, so I’ll probably stop by her house next weekend.  I have so much stuff for the baby.  My neighbor got rid of books, so I picked out tons of books that I thought would be good for, Elizabeth’s baby, so I have to get them to her and get them out of my car.

So Emily Elizabeth (the same name as my neice) was born Friday night, and weighs 7lbs 11ounces. I can’t wait to meet her!
